Origins of Painting

Painting as an activity in art dates back its roots to early man and can be traced as far as the prehistoric periods, in which paintings could be found in caves in France and Spain. These early works, which used natural pigments, mostly consist of animals and human figures that show some glimpse of how the early men lived. This was a painting art that different sorts of civilizations have been able to facilitate the diversified forms and techniques of styles. From what is noted, there were the Egyptians, the Greeks, and the Romans that used paints to indicate history, religion, as well as mundane life indicated symbolically and vividly.

Evolution in Types of Painting

As civilization evoked so did the painting's technique and style,. During the Middle Ages, religious art was dominant, and paintings were primarily done to decorate churches and express Christian concepts. Tempera paint, which constituted pigment mixed with egg yolk, was the main medium during the time. Of course, this way of painting changed completely during the Renaissance. This period is marked by the artists, among whom include Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael who filled their art with realism, perspective, and human anatomy in a manner that made their works technically and emotionally sound.
