As the world becomes accustomed to the aftermath of climate change and rushes for a renewable source of energy, it would greatly become important to turn to the prototype of possible solutions: solar panels. Solar panels are basically termed as photovoltaic cells; they convert sunlight directly into electricity. Therefore, in this article, we would be discussing what solar panels are, how they work, their benefits, and the future of solar energy.

What are Solar Panels?

Solar panels are the devices that capture sunlight and convert them into useful electrical energy by any form of photovoltaic effect. The usual construction of these solar panels has several photovoltaic cells made up of semiconductors, such as silicon. Here, the sun's rays striking on the surface of photovoltaic cells will excite its electrons in the semiconductor material thus inducing an electric current. It then changes the current into alternating current so it can be used in homes, businesses, and even in the power grid.

Working of Solar Panels

Conversion in solar energy begins when sun light hits the surface of a solar panel. On the inside of this panel are photovoltaic cells mounted to take light energy and let go of electrons. Here's how the whole conversion process works:
